If it’s figures that’ll make you feel comfortable take heart; direct mail only contributes 2% of all household waste in the UK and our industry commitment to DEFRA to recycle 70% of all direct marketing material by 2013 is on target.
And the industry is clearly getting better as the DMA code of conduct promoting better targeting means the quantity of direct mail is 88% lower than 3 years ago
And no doubt I’d take the opportunity to mention that the DM industry accounts for 9% of total UK spending and contributes £43bn to the UK economy.
Direct marketing also saw its budget rise, by 116 percent. This year it has been allocated an additional $1.4 million, bringing the total to $2.7 million.
Sports marketing accounts for $1 million of the increase.
The Sales team has also seen its budget slashed 42 percent, it was allocated $1.4 million this year.
The advertising's budget jumped 71 percent and was allocated $14.56 million, up from $12.6 million.
Companies are increasingly linking their online direct marketing efforts with TV advertising, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers.
The comments came after recent research from Thinkbox revealed that online brands have increased their TV ad spend from £10 million in 2004 to £180 million in 2009 - an annual increase of 172 per cent.
New research published by the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) reveals that the click-through rate online was 150 per cent higher among people that been exposed to - and recalled - a given mobile advertisement.
