John is Executive Vice President and Head of Marketing, HSBC North America.

In his role, he is responsible for extending brand recognition and consideration of HSBC across North America in support of the aggressive growth strategy of the organization. This also encompasses the re-branding and integration of the various business units of Household International following the acquisition by HSBC in March 2003.

In the U.S., HSBC now has a customer base approaching 60 million and marketing products and services is a key component of the growth strategy. The overall marketing and substantial advertising budget continues to increase as it helps drive the business growth.

Prior to taking on his current role in November 2003, John had responsibility for marketing within HSBC Bank USA, a position held since March 2000.

A long-time HSBC employee, John has held a variety of positions within the Group both in the line and in Head Office. Before transferring to the USA, he had responsibility for growing the worldwide personal banking business, a role that took him to many parts of the Group and giving him a wide knowledge of the HSBC global business. That position was preceded by an extensive period in senior positions with the UK Marketing function.

John received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Durham in the UK, is a member of various marketing organizations and a Fellow of the Institute of Financial Services. John and his wife, Jenny, live in New York City and they have two daughters, both married.
