The second quarterly report in a series of quarterly technology marketing surveys to TechTarget's IT Research Panel, this report continues to benchmark the buying priorities and media consumption trends of information technology professionals. In the Q1 report, an unexpected tendency in technology buying research toward software downloads as the top online media type used by technology professionals - coupled with high usage and effectiveness rankings for attending live conferences emerged. In Q2, while software downloads continue to be an in-demand tool, a larger percentage of respondents indicate downloading trial software at various stages of the buying process, indicating an increased interest throughout the purchasing process.
As for revelations in Q2, findings point to a shift in the ranking of information resources. While responses clearly point to a primary dependence on search engines to research new products or technologies, IT Publisher websites moved into second place, displacing vendor websites.
These and more findings, including the current state of new media options, are now available in the Q2 report.
